Add or Modify a Concrete Block Wall Assembly

This dialog can be used to:

  1. define and add a "concrete block wall" sub-assembly to a "Custom Wall" assembly in the project, or
  2. modify or view "concrete block wall" sub-assembly to a "Custom Wall" assembly in the project.
Description / Assumptions / Limits Required inputs

Concrete blocks

  • Based on normal weight, 200mm x 400mm x 200mm (8"x16"x8") hollow concrete blocks.
  • Vertical cores are grouted with Coarse Grout and reinforced with one #15M (#5 Imperial) steel rebar. The spacing of grouted cores depends on the project location. Additional grouting and rebar is included at all openings, and all the cores of the top two rows of blocks are grouted.
  • Vertical core grout spacing in Los Angeles, Portland and Seattle is every 200mm (in other words, every core is grouted and reinforced with rebar).
  • Vertical core grout spacing in Vancouver is every 400mm (every second core is grouted and reinforced with rebar).
  • Vertical core grout spacing in Calgary and Winnipeg is every 600mm (every third core is grouted and reinforced with rebar).
  • Vertical core grout spacing in all other locations is every 800mm (every fourth core is grouted and reinforced with rebar).
  • Horizontal ladder wire is not included and should be added as extra basic material if required.
  • It is recommended that the height of concrete block walls should be limited to 8m and openings to 40% of wall area, however, the software does not restrict this.
  • Blocks of other thicknesses (100mm, 150mm, 250mm, 300mm - 4", 6", 10", 12") and Lightweight concrete blocks are available as Extra Basic Materials, but this assembly only uses 200mm (8") Normal Weight concrete blocks. If you wish to model a wall using these different sized blocks, you must manually calculate the amount of blocks, grout, mortar and rebar, and enter those totals in Extra Basic Materials

Seismic Note:

Ther are no seismic adjustments since the grouted cores are location dependant and account for any extra material needed in seismic areas.

Block Size Note:

This assembly uses 190mm x 390mm blocks, surrounded by 10mm mortar joints, to arrive at a nominal block size of 200mm x 400mm, or 8" x 16" blocks. This results in 12.5 blocks per square metre of wall area.

Field Descriptions:

Name:
Enter a name for this assembly. All assemblies within a project must be uniquely named within each assembly group. Names maybe alphanumeric (e.g., foundation 1).

Units:
Here you can set the units of measure as either "SI" or "Imperial". Changing the default units here affects only the current assembly but will not override the Default Units of Measure nor the Units of Measure settings for open projects or any other assemblies within open projects.

Block Thickness:
This assembly is based on a 200mm (8") block thickness
  • 200 mm (8")
