Fossil Fuel Consumption – Summary Measure Details
Fossil Fuel Consumption is reported in mega-joules (MJ). Embodied Fossil Fuel Consumption includes all energy, direct and indirect, used to transform or transport raw materials into products and roadways, including inherent energy contained in raw or feedstock materials that are also used as common energy sources. (For example, natural gas used as a raw material in the production of various plastic (polymer) resins.) In addition, the Pavement LCA captures the indirect energy use associated with processing, transporting, converting and delivering fuel and energy plus the operating energy.
Fossil Fuel Consumption includes the following:
- non-renewable fossil fuel consumption
- feedstock fossil
Primary Energy excludes the following:
- electricity
- non-renewable nuclear
- renewable solar/wind/water/geothermal
- renewable biomass
- feedstock biomass
