Primary Energy – LCA Measure Details
Primary energy is reported in mega-joules (MJ). Embodied primary energy includes all energy, direct and indirect, used to transform or transport raw materials into products and buildings, including inherent energy contained in raw or feedstock materials that are also used as common energy sources. (For example, natural gas used as a raw material in the production of various plastic (polymer) resins.) In addition, the Impact Estimator captures the indirect energy use associated with processing, transporting, converting and delivering fuel and energy and energy plus the operating energy.
Primary Energy includes the following:
- non-renewable fossil fuel consumption
- non-renewable nuclear
- renewable solar/wind/water/geothermal
- renewable biomass
- feedstock fossil
- feedstock biomass
Total Primary Energy is the sum of all Energy types:
- Hydro
- Non-Hydro Renewable
- Coal
- Diesel
- Feedstock
- Gasoline
- Heavy Fuel Oil
- LPG (propane)
- Natural Gas
- Nuclear
- Wood
Non-Renewable Energy is the sum of the following Energy types:
- Coal
- Diesel
- Feedstock
- Gasoline
- Heavy Fuel Oil
- LPG (propane)
- Natural Gas
- Nuclear
Fossil Fuel Consumption is the sum of the following Energy types:
- Coal
- Diesel
- Feedstock
- Gasoline
- Heavy Fuel Oil
- LPG (propane)
- Natural Gas
